At the risk of very un-English immodesty, the audience declared this wonderful winter concert at St Michael’s Church, Chagford, to be a major shift in the performance skills and confidence of the choir. Mulled wine and mince pies may have warmed them to their theme but the theme was clear. Choir members also palpably enjoyed their singing and themselves commented on the excellent conductor/choir rapport and their overall awareness during the evening. No doubt that this concert success lies primarily at the door of our gifted and apparently tireless conductor, Tim Pithers. However, it also reflects a choir membership that is maturing and developing its skills and developing its musical abilities within and also outwith the normal rehearsals. Last, and by no means least, credit must be extended to our accompanist, Shaun Brown, and to our three Exeter Cathedral Scholar Solists (Andrew Culver, Matthew Jeffrey and Sophie-Dominique Waddie) who supported us so brilliantly.

It all bodes very well for a Night at the Opera in April 2019….a night of verve!

The winter programme included:

Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on Christmas Carols

Schubert: Mass in G

Morten Lauridsen: O Magnum Mysterium
